LUBRICATION & MAINTENANCE

Maintenance and repairs should only be carried out by a competent person, using genuine GLORIA replacement parts. If in any doubt, please contact GPS Sprayers, UK Agent for GLORIA. We will be pleased to either supply parts or service the sprayer for a reasonable charge.

BEFORE COMMENCING ANY WORK ON THE SPRAYER, ALWAYS TAKE CARE TO RELEASE ANY REMAINING PRESSURE IN THE CONTAINER WHICH COULD CAUSE YOU TO BE SPLASHED WITH CHEMICAL.

TESTING THE SAFETY RELIEF VALVE
The safety valve should be tested at frequent, regular intervals, as follows. Add water to the level of the joint in the container between blue and yellow, approximately 6 litres, to expel as much air as possible and pump the sprayer to normal working pressure. Continue pumping until air can be heard escaping, confirming satisfactory operation of the relief valve. If pumping becomes very difficult with no release of air, the valve should be checked and/or replaced before the sprayer is used again.

CLEANING THE FILTER IN THE TRIGGER VALVE
There is a filter Part No. 613320 in the handle of the trigger valve to prevent nozzle blockages. Symptoms indicating that this filter is blocked are when a poor, weak spray pattern occurs whilst the container has liquid under pressure and the nozzle is clear. For cleaning, the filter can be unscrewed from the hose adaptor Part No. 535940, after first unscrewing the hose adaptor from the trigger valve.

GENERAL LUBRICATION
Occasional lubrication of rubber seals and ‘O’ rings which move, will keep your sprayer functioning nicely. Lubricating the pump and trigger valve as described below are the main areas, but a light smear of grease occasionally on the nozzle ‘O’ ring Part no. 601910 will keep adjustment easy and similar on the pump sealing ‘O’ ring Part No. 627070 will ensure a good seal occurs without excessive force when the pump is screwed in. If parts which employ an ‘O’ ring seal are removed, a light smear of grease around the outside of the ‘O’ ring, before the part is replaced, will ensure they will slide into place properly to make a good seal. Suitable lubricants are light grease or petroleum jelly.

TO DISMANTLE AND LUBRICATE THE PUMP
The piston rod is retained in the pump barrel by a pair of collets, Part No. 510880. These can be unlocked by holding the pump barrel Part No.510840 in one hand, whilst withdrawing the piston Part No. 722990 to it’s full extent with the other and then turning it anti-clockwise. Lubricate the perimeter of the piston washer Part No. 536480 and re-assemble the pump, by positioning the components and turning the piston clockwise until the locking ‘click’ occurs. The frequency of this operation depends on usage, but experience will indicate when the piston washer is dry, because pumping will be more difficult due to excessive friction.

TO DISMANTLE AND LUBRICATE THE TRIGGER VALVE
If the trigger valve becomes stiff or sluggish to operate, it is necessary to lubricate the valve spindle Part No. 607472 and spindle ‘O’ rings Part No. 606571. The spindle can be withdrawn from the trigger valve housing with a pair of thin nose pliers after using a coin to unscrew the valve plug Part No. 536900.
